Koh Rong Island

Koh Rong island is a lightly developed island off the coast of SihanoukVille, Cambodia.

A large Cambodian island, with a land size equal to Hong Kong.

2 hours (21 KM) by regular boat from SihanoukVille, Cambodia.  1/2 hour by speedboat.

Now a mostly deserted island.  There are over 1,000 people living on the island in 4 small villages, mostly fishermen, fishing support services, and their families, and of course, restaurant, diveshop and guesthouse employees.

However, plans are for a resort, casino, airport, golf course, horse race track, etc...etc...etc...

15 Kilometers long, and between 3 Kilometers and 9 Kilometers wide.  78 square kilometer land space.

Surrounded by many smaller Cambodian Islands, the largest with the confusing name of Koh Rong Samlem.  (or Koh Rung Salem, or Koh Rong Samleom)

There's local mobile phone service on the island (for some of the cell phone companies), no electricity (execpt for several generators), no medical services (what we would call medical services), a bit of internet (you can thank our local phone service for that) and lots of beach.

Tourists generally visit the island between the end of October and end of May.

Most of the activity is on and near the beaches.  There are some jungle paths to explore.  Koh Rong is the biggest and most populous island destination in Cambodia.

Come visit, before the other 99% of the island is taken over.  It's a truly special and unique experience at the moment.
